Bio Sanitation for Landscapers

In this session you will learn how to prevent the movement of invasive pests through clean landscaping practices.

Molly Murphy worked in the forests throughout Hawaii and the Pacific, identifying species and assessing vegetation in her early career. Since 2015 at BIISC, she has worked with nurseries and the community to prevent the spread of invasive plants and pests. Molly also creates content for plantpono.org, a website that helps residents make wise planting decisions for our yards and the āina. She is particularly interested in the history and movement of plants by humans.

Darcy Yogi is the Invasive Plant Prevention Tech for the Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC). Darcy is originally from Kailua Oʻahu, but has spent most of her adulthood living in Hilo. She has been working in the invasive species realm her whole career from the top of Mauna Kea and down to our coasts and wetlands. At BIISC, Darcy is mostly involved in outreach, including the Plant Pono program which focuses on preventing the spread of invasive plants and insect pests within the nursery trade on Hawaiʻi Island.
