Zhiqiang Cheng, PhD
Dr. Zhiqiang Cheng is a Professor and Extension Specialist in CTAHR, UH Manoa, with 22 years of research experience on biology, ecology, and management of turfgrass and landscape pests. His current and recent research projects in Hawaii include: control of coconut rhinoceros beetle, control of Ficus stem and leaf gall wasps, control of lobate lac scale, control of oriental flower beetle, control of hala scale, control of foliar nematode on fern, control of frit fly on golf course, and more.

Melody Euaparadorn
Melody Euaparadorn is the Outreach Specialist at the Hawaii Ant Lab (HAL), a program of the University of Hawaii. Her role is to bridge the gap between HAL’s research and practical application by educating homeowners, landscapers, farmers, and nursery professionals on best management practices for the prevention and control of invasive ants.

Mark Fukui graduated from Pacific University with a bachelors in exercise science. Originally destined for medical school he changed tracks upon returning home to Oahu. Since 2014 he has been learning the business and running Contemporary Landscaping, a landscape nursery specializing in large trees and palms.

Matt Lyum
Matt holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Washington, and is an alumni of the Goldman Sachs Small Business Program at Babson College in Boston. Matt’s company was the first acquisition in Hawaii by the largest landscape company in the U.S., BrightView. Matt's session titled "How to sell your business" will share his experience meeting with different buyers, what they value in businesses, working with consultants and lawyers, and how he prepared his business for sale.

Christy Martin is the Program Manager for the Coordinating Group on Alien Pest Species (CGAPS), a partnership of government agencies and non-governmental organizations working together to catalyze policies and programs to better protect Hawaii from invasive species. Christy has more than twenty years of experience working on invasive species issues and policy in Hawaii.

Allison Miles
Allison Miles is serving as an Outreach Technician at the Hawaii Ant Lab (HAL) on the Big Island. She received her Agriculture degree from UH Hilo in Crop Protection and applied that knowledge as a C-27 design-build contractor and Qualified Applicator (QAL) with a focus on plant and soil health.

Sean Mochizuki
Sean Mochizuki is a Certified Public Accountant and oversees the learning and development, recruiting, talent engagement, and cultural initiatives for Accuity LLP, one of the largest CPA and consulting firms in Hawaii. He is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He has worked at Accuity for over 14 years and has also worked as a Director of Finance for a publicly traded company.

Molly Murphy
Molly worked in the forests throughout Hawaii and the Pacific, identifying species and assessing vegetation in her early career. Since 2015 at BIISC, she has worked with nurseries and the community to prevent the spread of invasive plants and pests. Molly also creates content for plantpono.org, a website that helps residents make wise planting decisions for our yards and the Äina. She is particularly interested in the history and movement of plants by humans.

Jill Wirt
Jill Wirt is Program Director at Maui Nui Marine Resource Council. She manages the Reef Friendly Landscaping program, helping to promote organic land care practices that protect nearshore ecosystems. Jill also leads the Council’s coral restoration efforts, coordinating coral outplanting and monitoring to support reef resilience. In 2024, she organized a large-scale community planting at Kahoma Village to restore coastal vegetation and reduce sediment runoff.
